description: YASMIN contains drospirenone and ethinylestradiol which are oral contraceptives with antimineralocorticoid and antiandrogenic effects. It is also beneficial for women who experience hormone-related fluid retention and the symptoms it causes, and for women with acne and seborrhea. Combined oral contraceptives (COCs) are based on the interaction of various factors, the most important of which are seen as inhibition of ovulation and changes in cervical secretions. When using this medicine, you MUST ACCORD TO THE DOCTOR'S INSTRUCTIONS. Purchasing this drug requires education regarding the appropriate and safe use or consumption of the drug which will incur a fee.

Medical Examination/Consultation: A complete medical history and physical examination should be performed before initiating or reinstating COC use, guided by contraindications (see Contraindications) and warnings (see Warnings), and should be repeated periodically. Periodic medical assessment is also important because contraindications (e.g., transient ischemic attacks, etc.) or risk factors (e.g., family history of venous or arterial thrombosis) may arise for the first time during COC use. The frequency and nature of these assessments should be based on established practice guidelines and adapted to the individual woman, but should generally include specific reference to blood pressure, breast, abdominal and pelvic organs, including cervical cytology.
Women should be advised that oral contraceptives do not protect against HIV infection (AIDS) and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Pregnancy Category:
Category X: Contraindicated (not to be used).
There are research results on test animals and humans that show abnormalities in the fetus. This drug is contraindicated for pregnant women and those who may become pregnant.
Lactation can be affected by COCs because they can reduce the quantity and change the composition of breast milk. Therefore, the use of emergency contraceptive pills is generally not recommended until the breastfeeding mother has completely weaned her child. Small amounts of contraceptive steroids and/or their metabolites may be excreted with milk.
