description: Suvesco is a drug that contains rosuvastatin. Rosuvastatin functions to selectively and competitively inhibit the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme, which is the rate-limiting enzyme that converts 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A into mevalonate, a cholesterol precursor. The site of action of rosuvastatin is in the liver, the target organ for reducing cholesterol. Rosuvastatin increases the number of hepatic LDL (Low density lipoprotein) receptors on the surface of liver cells, increases the absorption and catabolism of LDL and inhibits hepatic VLDL synthesis, thereby reducing the total number of VLDL (Very low density lipoprotein) and LDL particles.
