Methylprednisolone works by penetrating cell membranes to form a steroid-protein receptor complex. In the cell nucleus, this steroid-protein receptor complex will bind to DNA chromatin and stimulate mRNA transcription which is part of the protein synthesis process. As an anti-inflammatory, this drug suppresses neutrophil migration, reduces the production of prostaglandins (compounds that function as inflammatory mediators), and causes capillary dilation.
