Patients who experience intravascular vol &/or Na depletion; bilateral renal artery stenosis or stenosis of the arteries leading to one functioning kidney, history of bronchial asthma; aortic or mitral stenosis, or obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Increased risk of severe hypotension & renal impairment. Serum levels of potassium, creatinine & uric acid must be monitored periodically. Impaired liver function or progressive liver disease; Can cause electrolyte balance disorders & glucose tolerance disorders. Hyperuricemia may occur. Patients w/ DM, primary aldosteronism, heart failure or ischemic cerebrovascular disease; May cause exacerbation of systemic lupus erythematosus. Stop using thiazides before testing parathyroid function. May impair the ability to drive a vehicle or operate machinery. Elderly. Child.
