description: Lixiana is a drug containing edoxaban. This drug is used to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in adult patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation with a CHADS2 score of at least 2, treatment of deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism. Edoxaban is a highly selective, direct and reversible inhibitor of factor Xa which is a serum protease located in the general pathway of the coagulation cascade. Edoxaban inhibits free factor Xa, and prothrombinase activity. Inhibition of factor Xa in the coagulation cascade reduces thrombin generation, prolongs clotting time and reduces the risk of thrombus formation. When using this medication, you must ACCORD TO THE DOCTOR'S INSTRUCTIONS.
