description: GLUCOVANCE TABLET is an anti-diabetic drug containing Glibenclamide and Metformin HCl. Metformin belongs to the Biguanide group of antidiabetics, which works by inhibiting glucose production in the liver. This inhibition results in a delay in the absorption of glucose in the intestine, thereby reducing both basal and postprandial plasma glucose. Apart from that, Metformin also works by improving insulin sensitivity by increasing the uptake and use of glucose in peripheral tissues. In this way, there will be an improvement in glucose tolerance in type 2 diabetes patients. Glibenclamide is a second generation sulfonylurea drug which can reduce glucose in the blood by stimulating the release of insulin in the pancreas.
