description: GLIMEFION is an anti-diabetic drug containing Glimepiride which is included in the sulfonylurea group. This drug is used as an anti-diabetes mellitus type 2 or Non-Insulin-Dependent (type II) Diabetes Mellitus (NIDDM) where blood glucose levels cannot be controlled by diet and exercise alone. This drug works by lowering blood sugar levels by stimulating the release of insulin from functioning pancreatic beta cells. This drug can also increase the sensitivity of peripheral tissues to insulin. GLIMEFION is used as sole therapy or in combination with other oral anti-diabetic drugs or insulin.
