description: Galvusmet is a drug containing the active substances Vildagliptin and Metformin HCl. Metformin is a biguanide antidiabetic agent that reduces hepatic glucose production through inhibiting gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis, increases peripheral utilization and absorption of glucose by increasing insulin sensitivity, and delays intestinal glucose absorption. Vildagliptin is an inhibitor dipeptidase-4 (DPP-4), thereby increasing the concentration of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP).It increases glucose-dependent insulin secretion and reduces glucagon production. Indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) whose diabetes is not adequately controlled on metformin hydrochloride or vildagliptin alone or who are already being treated with a combination of vildagliptin and metformin hydrochloride, as separate tablets, and is also indicated to be used in combination with insulin.
