Ericfil contains Sildenafil citrate is a selective inhibitor of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). This drug inhibits phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE-5) which is responsible for the degradation process of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the corpus cavernosum . Inhibition of PDE-5 increases cGMP resulting in relaxation of pulmonary vascular smooth muscle cells. Sildenafil citrate is rapidly absorbed after oral administration, with an absolute bioavailability of approximately 41%. The drug is metabolized in the liver (mainly by the enzyme cytochrome P-450 3A4) and converted into an active metabolite with properties similar to Sildenafil citrate.
