description: Coxiron contains etoricoxib. Etoricoxib is a drug used to relieve signs of osteoarthritis, chronic neuromusculoskeletal (nerve, muscle, ligament, joint) pain, and acute pain during dental surgery. Etoricoxib is included in the NSAID group which has anti-inflammatory (anti-inflammatory), analgesic (anti-pain) and antipyretic (relieves fever) activities. Etoricoxib is a potent, orally active and highly selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor. Two COX isoforms have been identified, namely COX-1 and COX-2. Inhibition of the COX-1 pathway by non-selective NSAIDs can result in gastric damage and platelet inhibition. Etoricoxib exerts a dose-dependent inhibitory effect on COX-2 without affecting the COX-1 pathway at doses up to 150 mg per day.
