description: CIPROFLOXACIN is a generic antibiotic drug derived from Quinolone by inhibiting DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, both of which are important in bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair and recombination. This drug is used to treat bacterial infections that are sensitive to ciprofloxacin such as infections of the urinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, including typhoid fever caused by S. typhi, respiratory tract (except pneumonia caused by Streptococcus), skin and soft tissue, bones and joints. When using this medication, you must ACCORD TO THE DOCTOR'S INSTRUCTIONS. Use with caution in patients with known or suspected CNS disorders, predisposing risk factors for seizures, or lower seizure threshold, history or risk factors for QT prolongation, torsades de pointes, uncorrected hypokalemia/hypomagnesemia, cardiac disease (e.g. , heart failure, myocardial infarction, bradycardia), positive family history of aneurysm disease, pre-existing aortic aneurysm or dissection and their risk factors (e.g. Marfan syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos vascular disease, hypertension, peripheral atherosclerotic vascular disease), diabetes, previous tendon disorders (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis), G6PD deficiency. Kidney and liver disorders. Parents, children. Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Febrile neutropenic patients who are immunocompromised. Not recommended for the treatment of streptococcal infections or as a treatment option for gonococcal infections in some countries due to the global increase in quinolone resistance of N. gonorrhoeae. Not effective in the treatment of syphilis. Reserve use for the treatment of acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, acute uncomplicated cystitis, or acute sinusitis in patients without alternative treatment options.
