Celecoxib reversibly inhibits the transformation of arachidonic acid into prostaglandin precursors. Its selective activity on COX-2 makes it have antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity and minimizes the side effects of drugs on the digestive tract (eg stomach ulcers) which commonly occur when using non-selective NSAID drugs (acting on COX-1 and COX- 2). This drug is used to treat pain and swelling due to rheumatoid arthritis, gouty arthritis and when the patient also experiences inflammation, and reduces inflammatory disorders (inflammation) in general.
