description: BACTESYN TABLET containing Sultamicillin (Sultamicillin) is an oral dosage form of a combination antibiotic between beta-lactam antibiotics, namely Ampicillin and the beta-lactamase inhibitor Sulbactam. Ampicillin works by inhibiting the Penicillin Binding Protein of bacteria which then prevents the formation of bacterial cell walls. As a result, bacterial cells undergo lysis and subsequent bacterial cell death occurs, so this drug is bactericidal. Meanwhile, Sulbactam is a substance that can inhibit the formation of beta-lactamase which is produced by bacteria to protect itself from attacks by penicillin-type antibiotics such as Ampicillin. The combination of the two makes Sultamicillin effective in overcoming bacterial attacks of various types, including bacteria that are resistant to Ampicillin. This drug is used to treat skin and soft tissue infections, respiratory tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, surgical infections, gynecological infections and infections of the digestive tract.
