Cefixime is an antibiotic that has a broad spectrum, active against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. This antibiotic is used to treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections, otitis media, pharyngiris and tonsillitis, as well as acute and chronic bronchitis with acute exacerbations. This drug works as a bactericidal with the mechanism of action of the drug by binding to one or more penicillin-binding proteins (PBP) which inhibits transpeptidation of the last stage of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell walls, thereby inhibiting biosynthesis and preventing cell wall formation which results in bacterial cell death. - Use in breastfeeding women:
