description: Adecco XR is a drug containing metformin. Metformin is a generic antidiabetic drug that is used to control and reduce blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Metformin is a Biguanide class of antidiabetic drug, which works by inhibiting glucose production (gluconeogenesis) in the liver. This inhibition results in a delay in the absorption of glucose in the intestine, thereby reducing plasma glucose both basal and postprandial (after eating). Apart from that, Metformin also works by improving insulin sensitivity by increasing the uptake and use of glucose in peripheral tissues. In this way, there will be an improvement in glucose tolerance in type 2 diabetes patients. This drug can be taken alone, combined with other antidiabetic drugs, or given with insulin.
