description: ACYCLOVIR 400 MG TABLET is a generic antiviral drug containing Acyclovir which is used to treat viral infections such as treating herpes simplex infections of the skin & mucous membranes, including initial & recurrent genital herpes. Prevention of recurrent herpes simplex infections in immunocompetent patients. Herpes simplex prophylaxis in immunocompromised patients. Treatment of shingles. This drug works by inhibiting the herpes simplex virus DNA polymerase and viral DNA replication, thereby preventing the synthesis of viral DNA without affecting normal cells (body cells). When using this medicine, you MUST ACCORD TO THE DOCTOR'S INSTRUCTIONS. Monitoring: Monitor urinalysis, BUN, serum creatinine, urine output, liver enzymes, CBC. Assess neurotoxicity and nephrotoxicity in pediatric patients receiving high doses. Monitor neutrophil counts at least twice weekly in neonates.
