Prevention of recurrent herpes simplex infections in immunocompetent patients. Herpes simplex prophylaxis in immunocompromised patients. Treatment of shingles. This drug works by inhibiting the herpes simplex virus DNA polymerase and viral DNA replication, thereby preventing the synthesis of viral DNA without affecting normal cells (body cells). When using this medicine, you MUST ACCORD TO THE DOCTOR'S INSTRUCTIONS.
