When bacteria divide, amoxicillin works to inhibit the formation of peptidoglycan so that the bacteria lyse and die. Meanwhile, Potassium Clavulanate is a substance that can inhibit the formation of beta-lactamase which is produced by bacteria to protect itself from attacks by penicillin-type antibiotics such as amoxicillin. The combination of amoxicillin and Potassium Clavulanate makes Aclam effective in overcoming bacterial attacks of various types, including bacteria that are resistant to amoxicillin.
